The plight of kids with cerebral palsy ( CP) in Jalandhar district has come to light in the the five villages APAAR has a presence. One of them, Gunu is 20 year old and crawls on his poor family's floor, knees flexed and deformed.Kiran is a 21 year old who also does the same. Born with CP and never guided for surgery.
Sarab Shiksha Abhyaan teachers and volunteers are supposed to identify such kids and refer them for surgery to the district designated surgeon. That is not happening it seems. Are they not answerable ? Special kids are sitting at home uneducated .
Care homes in Jalandhar have many kids with CP. APAAR cannot take this lying down. ( Although our ambit is solely PWD with intellectual Disability (ID)
We have met the District Social Security Officer (DSSO)yesterday and are looking for the exact law to quote so she can keep the concerned departments accountable. Understaffed DSSO s - our DSSO covers two districts plus two days in Chandigarh . One day a week in Jalandhar she can be. This is our state's commitment to the disabled. Hanging our heads in shame and TERROR after watching 14 kids successfully treated for CP in CMC 's satellite centre in Hambran, Distt Ludhiana on my visit there Feb 11. Can Doaba ( our area )awaken ? Yes-- APAAR is working on it.
