Daring to Change the Landscape

My adult autistic brother Luv is the inspiration for APAAR's existence. I have written about him last year as well on our blog. He is a Gemini. I do not believe in astrology to predict one's life events but I do know there are personality types- from four decades of fun observing people of the twelve zodiac signs. I am part of many writer groups in the US-- (I write essays and poetry). I have been an avid writer since my teenage years but this fell by the wayside until four years ago .

I would write this blog everyday if I could- there is so much to share about APAAR's vital work every single day. I do compose most of APAAR' FB and insta feeds.

Anyway, what I wish to say here is that Geminis are prolific readers, thinkers, and writers-- thay are the  most active writers I meet in my writer groups. Luv never got the opportunity to be literate- his disability- non verbal autistic -" ruled that out" in the sorry schools of his childhood. He is now in his thirties. His mother wants him to be educated. So does Akash's with a similar lack of formal education. This week Mr Pramod Kumar , APAAR special educator has set off on this serious work of incorporating academics as a goal for Luv for the first time.

In addition, I have a repeat revelation. Luv loves travel( as a Gemini and perhaps as a Bhullar- our family can pick up their bags at one hour notice and set off to unknown destinations - it is our greatest pleasure. ).

Luv got a long weekend travel time April 2 ( Sunday) and 3. We drove to our ancestral village by Tarn Taran. We visited many gurdwaras. We spent Sunday night at that little oasis of green and peace, Khadoor Sahib, which is few km from our ancestral village. Luv was so happy , meeting old friends, exploring their village haveli, enjoying the site of buffalo and cows, exploring exotic bouganivillea and large chikoo trees and spending time roaming the vast gurdwara compounds. On his own- no supervision (he does not cover his head, so he stays in the verandas and gardens of gurdwaras as my mother and I spend time in the inner sanctums.).

APAAR has made him a confident traveler. He was happy to be out for a well deserved break.

Now we launch a new chapter- teaching him to read and write. THANKS to APAAR's awesome staff.  Good luck Luv. Good luck Akash.
